HYDERABAD TO HAVE 100 PER CENT SEWERAGE TREATMENT FACILITY IN NEXT 2 YEARS. SANCTION OF RS.5,000 CRORE FOR INSTALLATION 31 NEW STPS AND OTHER INFRASTRUCTURE FACILITIES TO HYDERABAD CITY ON 23.09.2021

Sri K.T. Rama Rao, Hon’ble Minister for MA&UD hold the press conference at Dr. HCR HRDI on 23-09-2021 and informed the media stating that an amount of Rs.5,000Crs has been sanctioned by the Government for the installations of newly 31 STPs and construction of additional service reservoirs and other infrastructure facilities. The Minister hold the press conference along with Sri. Arvind Kumar, IAS, Principle Secretary, MA&UD, Sri. M. Dana Kishore, IAS Managing Director, HMWSSB and Smt. G. Vijaya Lakshmi, Mayor, GHMC.

The Minister has stated that Government of Telangana has accorded the financial sanction of Rs.5,000Crs in a single day is a history in the Government Administration and this amount will be utilized for strengthening the Hyderabad Sewerage and Drinking Water Network. While stating it is a good news for citizens of Hyderabad, the Minister has declared that 31 new Sewerage Treatment Plants (STPs) would be set up in GHMC limits for 100 percent sewage treatment. The Hyderabad city currently generated 1,950 MLD (Million Litres per Day) of sewage per day. Of this, 1,650 MLD was being generated within GHMC, while another 300 MLD was being generated within GHMC and ORR. However, there were currently 25 STPs in the city with a capacity of 772 MLD out of only 46.78 per cent of the total waste water is being treated and hence the installation of new STPs are required.

While thanking to the Chief Minster for sanctioning of such a huge amount for Hyderabad Urban Agglomeration issues, the Minister KTR said that, the installation of new STPs will not only meet the present requirement but also for the future needs as well. For this the HMWSSB has authorized Shah Consultants and had drawn up a master plan based on the report. It has been estimated that after 10 years, 1,950 MLD of waste water would be generated in GHMC. Once the 31 new STPs starts functioning in GHMC the Hyderabad will be the number one in all metro cities in terms of sewerage treatment.

The HMWSSB would construct additional service reservoirs with 137 MLD capacity and lay pipelines for 2,100 Km, as per the orders passed by the Government vide G.O.Rt. No.674.
