WATER BOARD GEARED UP WITH SAFETY MEASURE IN HEAVY RAINS ON 13.07.2022

Sri M. Dana Kishore, IAS Managing Director, HMWSSB has instructed the officials to remain alert in the course of incessant rains in the city for the last few days. On 13-07-2022, the MD has visited the areas around Patigadda Reservoir in Begumpet and personally tested the drinking water quality. He expressed satisfaction that water is being supplied with proper quality. He interacted with the local residents and inquired about the quality of water supply.

He stated that the Water Board has paid special attention to the quality of drinking water due to heavy rains in the city for the past week & special measures are being taken to ensure that there is adequate chlorine in the drinking water supplied.

For this, the Water Board is adopting a three-step chlorination process, in the first phase, the process of chlorination is being carried out at the water treatment plants (WTP), in the second phase, chlorination is being done at the Main Balancing Reservoirs (MBR) and finally booster chlorination is being done at the service reservoirs. He said that precautions are being taken to ensure that the quality of drinking water supplied to the people is 0.5 ppm of chlorine according to ISO 10500 – 2012 standards.

The HMWSSB has so far distributed 5 lakh chlorine tablets in flood-affected areas, slums and low-lying areas and another 5 lakh chlorine tablets have been kept ready for distribution.

The HMWSSB has formed 16 Monsoon Safety Teams for emergency services in the Monsoon and each team will have five members and special vehicles have been made available for these teams 24 hours a day. He said that these vehicles are equipped with a dewatering motor with a generator facility to remove the flood & inundated water during the rainy season. In addition to these, another 16 mini Airtech vehicles have also been made available round the clock.

The MD has suggested that the people must ensure not open the manhole covers under any circumstances and if anyone opens manhole covers, the criminal cases will be filed under Water Board Act.  People must call HMWSSB customer care no 155313 if found any broken or open manhole covers and inform the Water Board.
